Gifted and Talented Education (GATE)

The gifted and talented are defined as those students who give evidence of high performance capability in intellectual, creative, artistic, leadership or specific academic areas and who need services or activities not ordinarily provided in a regular school program in order to fully develop such capabilities.

The following board policies and rules govern the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Program.

GATE Identification Criteria

As required by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, the identification of gifted and talented students shall be by means of multiple criteria (at least two) that are appropriate for the area of giftedness such as: Academic, Intellectual, Creativity, Leadership, and Visual/Performing Arts. A student may be identified as gifted or talented in one or more than one of the five areas.
