Attendance & Truancy

Regular school attendance is essential for successful school work. However, we do not expect a student who is ill to attend school. Children contracting a communicable disease should report it to the school nurse. The nurse will be able to tell you how long your child must stay out of school for the various diseases.

The Municipal Court of the City of Beaver Dam has authority to impose penalties for failure to attend classes. A child is prohibited from being a habitual truant. An habitual truant is a pupil who is absent from school without an acceptable excuse for part or all of five (5) days on which school is held during a semester, or more than ten (10) days in a school year. Safe Arrival to School

Students should NOT arrive to school before 8:15 a.m. on regular school days (or 10:15 a.m. on late start days). Parents should call school (885-7373) before 9:00 a.m. An answering machine will record calls prior to the start of the school day. If you leave a message, please include your child's name, the name of your child's teacher and why your child will be absent. If your child will be arriving late to school, please also let us know what time your child will be arriving and whether she/he will be having hot or cold lunch for that day. In place of a phone call, a written note explaining an absence may be sent with another child in the family and given to the secretary prior to the absence.
